En el
mes de febrero hemos tenido el placer de entrevistar a Fabiola Gómez,
una de los miembros más activos del Grupo de Voluntarios OHL-
Sevilla, para que nos trasladara su experiencia.
This past February we had the pleasure of interviewing Fabiola
Gómez, one of the most collaborative members of the OHL Volunteers-Seville
Group, to ask her to tell us a bit more about her experience within the group of
volunteers.
¿Cómo
conociste el grupo de voluntarios de OHL?
A
través de OHLFINET, veía las noticias que se publicaban sobre el grupo y las
actividades, pero no sabía muy bien cómo podía formar parte de los voluntarios
pues siempre veía que las actividades no eran en Sevilla.
How did you find out about the OHL Volunteers group?
Through OHLFINET, I saw the news items
that were being published about the group and its activities, but was not
certain as to how I could belong to the volunteers, because the activities I
read about did not take place in Seville.
¿Cuál ha
sido el momento más bonito en la realización de actividades junto a Voluntarios
OHL?
El año pasado tuve la oportunidad de participar en
el voluntariado del Camino de Santiago y al finalizar el mismo se hace entrega a los chavales de la compostelana.
Fue muy emocionante escuchar cómo, a medida que se le iba entregando a cada uno
de los chicos, sus monitores le hacían una pequeña presentación con los méritos
que habían conseguido a lo largo de todas las etapas del camino.
¿Recomendarías
a tus compañeros que participaran en este tipo de actividades?
Por
supuesto. En la mayoría de las actividades te llevas más de lo que tú das y aprendes
más de lo que enseñas.
También
veo como positivo el conocer a gente del Grupo OHL, que de otra forma quizás no
tendría oportunidad. En mi caso, que me dedico a RR.HH, siempre es constructivo
hablar con otras personas del grupo que
se dedican a lo mismo que tú.
¿Por qué
recomendarías a otros compañeros que participaran en las actividades de
voluntariado corporativo?
Es una
forma de romper prejuicios que a veces nosotros mismos nos creamos sobre
determinados colectivos y que una vez participas en alguna actividad de
voluntariado, compruebas que eran eso; prejuicios.
¿Cuál ha
sido la campaña en la que has participado junto al Grupo de Voluntarios que más
te ha gustado?
El voluntariado del Camino de Santiago. Me
encantaría volver a hacerlo.
¿Cuál ha
sido el momento más especial en tu etapa de voluntaria?
Ver a los chicos entrar a la plaza de la Catedral de
Santiago finalizando su camino y a sus familiares esperándolos.
Tres
palabras con las que definirías el voluntariado.
Conciencia, compromiso y empatía.
¿Cuáles
son sus expectativas con el grupo de Voluntariado?
Me gustaría poder seguir colaborando con el grupo a largo
plazo y que hubiera más actividades por Andalucía para poder participar de
manera presencial.
¿En qué
crees que podríamos mejorar el Grupo de Voluntarios OHL?
Creo que habría que darle más visibilidad al grupo
dentro de la Organización, quizás a la hora de las nuevas incorporaciones a la
organización que se le hablara de la existencia y el trabajo de este grupo ya
que en ocasiones he hablado con compañeros que no conocían de su existencia.

What was your most rewarding experience
in the activities you took part in with OHL Volunteers?
Last year I
had the opportunity to participate in the volunteer activity of the Camino de Santiago
(Way of St. James) and, at the end of the pilgrimage, the young people in the
group were presented with the “Compostelana” (the Pilgrim’s Certificate). It
was a very emotional moment to hear the counselors of each of the young
participants make a brief statement of the merits they had achieved in the
various stages of the Way, as they individually presented the “Compostelanas”.
Would you recommend activities of this
kind to your colleagues at work?
Of course. In the majority of the activities,
you take away with you more than what you give and you learn more than what you
teach.
I also find it a positive experience to
meet other people in the OHL Group that you would not get to know otherwise. In
my case, as I work in HR, it is always constructive to talk with other people
in the Group who are involved in the same kind of tasks as you are.
Why would you recommend other colleague
to participate in corporate volunteering activities?
It is a way to dispel the prejudices
that at times we ourselves create with respect to certain groups and, once you
have participated in a volunteer activity, you find that they were just that: prejudices.
What was the Volunteers’ campaign in
which you participated that you liked the most?
The Camino de
Santiago. I would love to make the pilgrimage again.
What was the most special moment you
have experienced during your time as a volunteer?
Seeing the
young people enter the plaza of the Cathedral of Santiago finalizing their
pilgrimage and their families awaiting them.
How would you define volunteerism in three words?
Awareness, commitment
and empathy.
What are your expectations with the
Volunteers Group?
I would like to
continue working with the group in the long term and see more activities organized
in Andalusia, to be able to participate in person.
In what way do you feel that we could
improve the OHL Volunteers Group?
I think we
need to make the group more visible within the Organization, perhaps when new
employees join the workforce by telling them about the existence and the work
of this group, because there have been times when I have spoken with colleagues
who had no knowledge at all of its existence.
